Something to Look Forward to: Tunde Kelani’s latest work ‘YEEPA’

Following the successful movie MAAMi which featured Funke Akindele [released in 2012], Iconic Nigerian film maker, Tunde Kelani has unveiled his next project YEEPA.

When you hear that Tunde Kelani is coming out with something new, you know to expect quality stuff, and this time he is shooting one of Femi Osofisan’s classics ‘Yeepa Solarin Nbo’ using a fusion of stage and film. So, if you find the big screens intriguing but also love the live feel of the stage, YEEPA brings you an opportunity to experience both worlds on the same platform.

The filmed play is a Tribute to Dr Tai Solarin [1922 – 1994], who was Proprietor and Principal, Mayflower School, Ikenne, a one-time Public Complaints Commissioner, Oyo, Ogun and Ondo states, Nigeria 1976, and a social critic who unrelentingly battled corruption in Nigeria. There are infusions of conscious songs in YEEPA including  Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s Je n wi temi and Ayinla Omowura’s Omi Tuntun, which opens the film.

According to Kelani, YEEPA will be screened privately for top corporate organizations as well as in select cinemas and community halls and schools from October this year.

This is one project we’re definitely excited about!
